High School Science for Homeschoolers
(and more)!
- Are you unsure about teaching your highschooler science?
- Would you rather that the frog dissection happen in someone else's house?
I am Narda Butler,
- a homeschool Mom of five, and
- an Alaskan certificated teacher.
I offer, through DreamSpinner Learning,
- tutorials in Science for homeschoolers in Anchorage, Alaska,
- tutoring services for individual middle and high schoolers and,
- tutoring for credit-recapture students through a partnership with Frontier Charter School.
The Tutorials: I provide weekly tutorials designed to provide some instruction, allow time for hands-on labs and an opportunity for students to ask questions. The bulk of instruction is provided through the weekly homework assignments. I depend upon parents to assist their child in keeping up with the homework -- assigned through this website -- and accomplishing my objective of "learning to learn"; there is no spoon-feeding and regurgitation on tests in my tutorials!
Students need to have access to a computer and the Internet in order to participate. Some tutorials make use of a text, others do not - all learning material is available on the website. I try to use a multi-faceted approach to the presentation of material, making ample use of online videos, audio sources as well as text. I also provide students a number of ways to demonstrate mastery of material. I do some traditional testing, but also use projects and dialog as means of evaluation.
It's best to call me and ask your questions before enrolling to be sure that my tutorials are a good fit for your student!
Take a look at the tutorials page for more info!
Private Tutoring: Call me (346-1189) for info on private tutoring for Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Biology and Chemistry. Rates are generally $40/hour.
Planning for next year (2010 - 2011)? I've updated the tutorials page to reflect what I know I will be offering as of today, April 9!
